What is ovulation induction?

Ovulation induction refers to the use of medication to regulate ovulation by increasing the number of eggs released from the ovaries and thereby boost the chance of pregnancy through either timely sexual intercourse or artificial insemination.

who can go for ovulation induction?

Usually, women who have irregular menstrual cycles are unable to determine their ovulation. Women who have normal fallopian tubes but have no ovulation or have a low level of hormones for ovulation provided her male partner has a normal semen analysis, can opt for the treatment.

The Process

First, one has to be aware of what the process of ovulation is. A healthy woman with a regular menstrual cycle has an average of 28 to 30 days’ gap between two periods. Ovulation, which means the release of an egg from the ovaries, occurs between 12 and 16 days prior to the start of the period. During ovulation induction, the number of eggs is increased with the help of medication.
there are four stages for the treatment: assessment, stimulation, monitoring, and insemination.

Assessment

A fertility specialist assesses the woman’s ovulation cycle with blood and hormone tests at various stages of the menstrual cycle. After an ultrasound to check the development of follicles in the ovaries and thickness of the uterus lining, the treatment begins.

Stimulation

The woman’s ovaries are stimulated with fertility medication to produce ovulatory follicles that contain eggs that are capable of being fertilized. The medication usually involves oral drugs and injectable fertility hormones. The medication is decided upon after consultation and discussion with the patient and experts.

Monitoring

Through ultrasound and blood tests, the woman’s cycle is monitored closely to keep a tab on the number and size of follicles to record a healthy singleton pregnancy.

Insemination or Intercourse

Close to your possible ovulation days, the fertility specialist will recommend sexual intercourse or intrauterine insemination (artificial insemination) to boost the chances of a successful pregnancy. In IUI, the sperm collected from the male partner is inserted into the woman’s uterus.
